Florida State celebrated a Champs Sports Bowl victory over Notre Dame to close out the 2011 season. With this year barely in the books, what does the Orlando Sentinel believe 2012 holds for the Seminoles? Here's a look at our far-too-early (but potentially accurate) preseason poll. (Getty Images)
OK, it’s never too early to make preseason picks, right? Even if the season is a mere eight months away?
Well, if you believe otherwise, don’t try to convince the guys from the Orlando Sentinel’s “Gridiron365″ blog that they’re wrong. Because just like last season, they already have a preseason poll out for the college football world to peruse and abuse.
Literally moments after the white and crimson confetti began to fly inside the New Orleans Superdome on Monday night, the following blog went live. In addition to the typical intrigue that preseason polls generate with respect to which teams are picked in the top 5, there’s the added intrigue of seeing where a polling body has decided to place teams who should come into years with high expectations despite previous season finishes that were deemed disappointments.
Florida State falls into the category of the latter.
Where did the Seminoles fall on our preseason poll, though? Read on …
It should be noted that only the consistent contributors to the two-man operation known as the “Gridiron 365″ blog made the preseason picks. So basically, if you’re upset about something, I kindly request you don’t take it out on me, ha.
I will say, though, with the expectations of next year for FSU and with the way this season ended, I can’t disagree with where the Gridiron guys picked the ‘Noles. I’ve seen some other preseason projections that have them targeted three and four and five spots lower. That doesn’t bother me one bit, either. This is definitely a team that deserves to enter the 2012 season ranked, and ranked rather respectably. But, it’s also a team that will come into the year with a TON to prove.
Can the Seminoles live up to this No. 7 preseason pick?
Only seven months, 21 days, four hours, one minute and 20, 19, 18 seconds until we can find out …
